Epson launches new versatile A4 desktop scanners with extremely small footprint

With document management and vertical scan path ideal for remote workers

SYDNEY, 10 April 2024 – Epson has launched two new compact desktop scanners, the ES-C320W and the ES-C380W, to support the digitalisation process and address new office challenges associated with hybrid working – in particular shared workspaces, smaller offices and reduced desk space.

These new scanners give users the versatility to choose the most suitable media path, and by featuring an intuitive design and exceptional flexibility boast a new footprint that saves 60 percent of desk space¹. This means users can easily conquer clutter and reclaim space with scanners specifically designed for productivity and peace of mind.

To enhance workflow efficiency, there is easy wireless scanning with the ES-C320W and the ES-C380W. Then the inclusion of Epson ScanWay® with the ES-C380W means users can also use the product as a standalone solution, scanning and selecting workflows from its bright 2.4″ LCD touchscreen, removing the need for a PC. Users can also scan to popular cloud-based services, including OneDrive^®, Sharepoint^® online and Microsoft Teams^® using Epson Connect^®2.

With two-sided scanning, and a 20-sheet auto document feeder, the new scanners can efficiently handle stacks of paper in one fast pass at speeds up to 30 ppm/60 ipm.³ The flexible scan path provides remarkable versatility and the ability to scan most document types, from standard paper to invoices, greeting cards, business cards and passports.⁴

Both models include a range of image and text enhancement technologies, including OCR (optical character recognition) processing, automatic cropping, paper skew correction and Epson ScanSmart^® Software.⁵ These features help ensure excellent image quality and enable users to preview and email scans as well as save valuable time with automatic file name suggestion for streamlined file management.

Epson Plans Construction of Biomass Power Plant

Company’s first power plant aims to use renewable electricity

SYDNEY, 23 April 2024 – Epson has announced that it is planning the construction of the company’s first biomass power plant in Japan. Epson hopes to have the plant in operation in the 2026 fiscal year (ending March 2027) and is moving to secure the land and buildings, contract construction and file the paperwork for power generation.

Epson publicly committed to becoming carbon negative and underground resource free¹ in Environmental Vision 2050. The use of renewable electricity is a key means by which Epson seeks to reach its goal of decarbonisation and, in December 2023, Epson completed the switch to 100% renewable electricity at all Epson Group sites² around the world.

The new power plant is intended to provide Epson with self-generated renewable electricity on a continuous basis and reduce the ratio of electricity the company purchases from external power companies, thereby promoting wider public adoption of renewable electricity. Epson plans to construct the plant on the site of the former Kiribayashi Clean Centre, which the Minami Shinshu Wide-Area Union shut down in December 2017.

The electricity generated will be sold to the market under a feed-in premium (FIP) scheme³ and Epson will convert the electricity that it uses into renewable electricity by leveraging the environmental value created through power generation. Moreover, the power is expected to be supplied to local facilities in the event of a disaster or other emergency.

The power plant will not depend on fossil fuels. It will be fuelled primarily by unused wood from the Minami Shinshu area, as well as by materials such as tree bark, mushroom culture medium and some waste wooden pallets from Epson. By utilising wood and bark from neglected forests, Epson will also be contributing to forest maintenance.

Construction of this power plant will increase the ratio of self-generated power and meet the technical criteria of RE100, which emphasises additionality.

In the future, Epson aims to create a closed-loop power plant, including by developing technology for the fixation and utilisation of CO₂ produced during power generation.

Epson will continue to promote the wide-spread adoption of renewable electricity, reduce its energy consumption, and circulate resources on its way to realising its Environmental Vision 2050.

Epson printer and scanners win iF Design Award 2024

SYDNEY, 29 April 2024 – Epson printer and scanner models have been named winners of an iF Design Award 2024, one of the world’s most celebrated design awards.

Organised by iF International Forum Design GmbH, Hannover, the iF Design Award has been focused on innovative industrial product designs since 1954. Today it is recognised worldwide as one of the most prestigious of all design awards, honouring only those designs that have cleared certain selection criteria.

The criteria range from consideration of practicality and workmanship to innovativeness, sustainability, functionality, usability, safety, aesthetics and universal design.

This year, there were some 10,800 entries from 72 countries and regions ad judging was performed by a panel of 132 experts.

Epson’s award-winning designs

Garment Printers: SureColor SC-F2200 Series (SureColor F2260 in Australia and New Zealand)

These garment printers can directly print onto t-shirts and other clothes. The compact design of these printers makes them easy to install, expand and transport. Epson has also changed the design of the operating unit to solve the issue of t-shirts being difficult to attach to the previous model. Productivity has also been improved with the new model being made easier to operate. Epson hopes that the product helps contribute to the digitalisation of the textile printing industry.

Document Scanners: DS-C480W (DS-C380W in Australia and New Zealand) and DS-C420W (DS-C320W in Australia) Series

These compact desktop scanners help save space. The U-turn paper feeding vertical layout, frontal operation and flattened back achieve space saving, which helps contribute to an environment where the user can work comfortably and smoothly.

SYDNEY, 22 March 2023 – Furthering its commitment to sustainability, Epson has launched the most seriously sustainable, feature-rich range of business colour copiers in its history – the WorkForce Enterprise AM-Series – all of which have its award-winning, patented Piezo Heat-Free inkjet technology at their core.

The new 40-60ppm multi-function devices bring Epson’s most successful static line-head technology to the mass market enhancing the company’s offering and ensuring end users have the best product fit while still addressing and staying true to the company’s sustainability agenda.

Inkjet technology uses one quarter of the energy compared to laser1 and with a compact footprint and a lightweight design, these products help limit resources used during production and shipping. Epson wins selection to the Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovators for the 10th time

SYDNEY, 2 March 2023 – Epson has been listed among the Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovators 2023 announced by global information services firm Clarivate Plc. This represents the 10th time that Epson has been named to the list since its inception in 2012. Epson’s intellectual property
Epson emphasises a proactive, forward-looking intellectual property strategy and considers its unique, advanced core technologies to be its most important asset.

Piezo printheads are a core device in the printing sector. Epson own more patents related to these printheads than anyone else in the industry¹. This IP differentiates Epson from its competitors and is being actively developed or used in new inkjet printer products.

General Administrative Manager of the Epson Intellectual Property Division, Toshihiko Kobayashi, said, “It’s an honour to be selected as one of the Top 100 Global Innovators. The Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovators

Clarivate compares and analyses invention data from around the world, assesses the quality of patent ideas using indicators directly linked to innovativeness and annually selects companies and organisations that are at the top of the global innovation ecosystem and continuously demonstrate outstanding innovation performance.

A twin track approach is used in evaluations. The first track focuses on identifying innovating companies and organisations based on the number of patent applications filed and patents held. An “international factor” is then calculated based on the rate and scale of international inventions. The second track scores them on four factors – influence, success, globalisation, and rarity – and a comparison against all other patent ideas is made.

SYDNEY, 30 March 2021 – Epson has announced that its worldwide Group sites*1 will all meet their electricity needs from 100% renewable energy sources (renewable electricity) by 2023

With growing global interest in societal issues such as the environment and energy, Epson established its Environmental Vision 2050 to express its commitment to environmental management, and subsequently rolled out various measures aimed at achieving this.

The Paris Agreement subsequently established decarbonisation targets, and Epson created a scenario to achieve by FY2025 science-based targets (SBT*2) aimed at achieving these goals. This scenario included the use of renewable electricity as an important theme, and Epson made plans and implemented measures to expand its use over the long term.

The company has established its policy as it seeks to accelerate its plans to become a leading environmental company, and with the belief that climate change represents a serious corporate risk and that Epson must play a greater role in mitigating that risk as it rolls out its business worldwide.

As a result of these plans, Epson has calculated it can reduce emissions of CO2 by 36,000 tonnes annually to zero by using 100% renewable electricity at all sites worldwide by 2023.
